An agent is a lightweight service you install on any machine that has access to a SQL Server instance. It connects back to the DataTamed server over HTTPS using an auto-generated API key — no VPN or firewall changes beyond opening a single port. You can deploy as many agents as your plan allows, across any environment.
Never. DataTamed is entirely self-hosted. The server application and all agents run on your own infrastructure. No database files, backup files, or metadata are ever transmitted to Datatamed or any third-party service.
During the database import process, DataTamed inspects the schema and data of the source backup. It identifies columns likely to contain personal data (names, emails, phone numbers, IP addresses, physical addresses, dates of birth) and applies the configured masking strategy before the image is stored.
